hounds as closely to the AKC Standard as possible.

Our basset hounds are bred from quality AKC Championship
stock. It is our aim to breed puppies of good quality, with
sound temperaments, excellent health, sound construction
and good movement.

We do our best to make sure that all our puppies are well
socialized while in our care. To this end we spend time with
the puppies everyday and they have a wide range of toys
and bones to play with. We also invite other basset hound
breeders to visit the litter for socialization and to help us
evaluate the puppies.

The puppies spend at least the first 8 weeks of life in our
house where they get used to the vacuum cleaner, washing
machine, television, radio, other dogs and etc. After about 8
weeks they spend part of the day outside in a protected dog
run. So when puppies leave us they have experienced a
wide range of everyday domestic life and they have been
introduced to the outside world, where they do most of the
house training. New owners have found it a lot easier to
house train puppies because of this early training.

We only breed occasionally. When it comes to homing
puppies, we try to match a puppies temperament with the
family it is going to be with. There would be no point, for
instance, homing a shy puppy with a noisy, busy family.

We always invite prospective owners to come and visit the
Woebgon Kennel so that they can meet all our dogs and we
can get an idea of what the potential buyers are like, and
how they and their children, if any, are with the bassets. If at
all possible we check out the home where the puppy will be
going. All puppies leave with some food and a toy or blanket
with scent from us and their litter mates to help make the
transition to their new home easier. New owners are also
given instructions for the care of their new family members.
