Our current adult basset hounds are all AKC Champions. Pam and I both show them in conformation competition along with our co-breeders. They are also very important members of our family. All of our basset hounds live with us in our home and are our children. All are co-owned with Heather and Joan Simonek of Vogue Bassets. Heather and Joan help us with the showing duties and work with us on our breeding program.
We started out with pet quality basset hounds and enjoyed them very much. As we got to know some of the bassets and the basset hound breeders in Southern California, we got interested in showing our own. The basset hound breeders in Southern California are a great group of people.
Our first AKC Champion was CH. Shoefly's Bud Light. Buddy was a wonderful basset hound with many of the qualities we liked in a basset hound. As with most of the bassets from Andy and Sue Shoemaker at Shoefly Bassets, Buddy had a fantastic temperament a lot of what many call "type." Unfortunately we never got any puppies from Buddy.
CH. Shoefly's Royal Moosehead was our second AKC Champion. "Moose," had even more bone and "type" than Buddy along with a fantastic temperament. We purchased Moose from Andy and Sue to be the foundation of our line of basset hounds. He sired two litters for Heather and Vogue Bassets and one for us. We now have his grandchildren and great grandchildren. We couldn't ask for better results than what we have had from his offspring. Moose was an excellent foundation stud for our basset hounds.
The first AKC Champion female for us was CH. Vogue's Woebgon Mountain Dew, "Mandy." We purchased her from Heather Simonek because Mandy has a fantastic front and her attitude in the ring was something that Moose lacked. We thought her qualities would be a good addition to our line. While Mandy plays with her children and grandchildren here at home, she still appears in the show ring at basset hound "specialty shows" and loves showing off for the crowd. Her progeny have inherited Mandy's great qualities.
We have several adult females are out of Moose. They are CH. Vogue's Woebgon Bonnie Miss, "Bonnie," CH. Woebgon's Kickapoo Joy Juice, "Joy," and CH. Woebgon's Moxie Original, "Moxie." Bonnie is a beautiful basset hound. She is well liked by a lot of breeders. The judges liked her as well. Bonnie finished her AKC Championship with four majors before she turned one. In 2004, with Don showing her in Southern California, Bonnie was the number thirteen basset hound in the country and qualified for the AKC/Eukanuba Championship. Joy and Moxie are out of Moose and Mandy making them our first litter for Woebgon Bassets. Joy was our first "home bred" AKC Champion. In 2007 Joy was the number seven basset hound, the number one female shown by her breerer/owner and received an Award of Excillence at the AKC/Eukanuba Championship Show in Long Beach, California. In 2008 she was Best of Opposite Sex to Best of Breed at the famous Westminster Kennel Club Show in New York City. More recently Joy had a litter of eight puppies. Pam and Heather put all the points on Moxie. Moxie was the first basset hound that Pam showed and got points on and they had their first win under breeder/judge Jim White. Moxie finished her AKC Championship and had a litter of nine. We hope to have at least one more litter from Joy.
We do not breed very many litters. Like most reputable breeders, our reason for breeding is to establish our next generation of show dogs and to improve the breed through breeding bassets that come close to the AKC Basset Hound Standard as possible. The few basset hounds we have made available for "pet homes" were are very close to the AKC Standard as well, but we can't keep them all. We may have puppies available in late spring.
