Don and Pam Bullock
The two of us have taught elementary school since we got
married in 1971. Pam has always taught third grade, with a few
combination classes with second and third graders. Don has
spent the most time in grades four through six. He has also
taught educational technology courses at California Lutheran
University where he earned his Master's Degree. For the last
eleven years of teaching we both teamed together, teaching
third grade. We had two classes of third graders and they
switched between our classrooms for different subjects.
Both of
us are now retired.

We have owned basset hounds since 1978. Our first basset,
"Maggie," was rescued from the pound. She was a beautiful
basset, but her temperament was rather poor. We could see
why someone might have given up on her. We still loved her
and she was a special member of our family. Since Maggie
wasn't an AKC registered basset hound we decided to purchase
"Lucy" with "papers" from a pet store, something we will never
do again. After we got into bassets we discovered that she had
almost all the major faults possible, including knuckled over front
legs. Lucy was also afraid of anyone other than the two of us
and Pam's parents. She was a very poor example of a basset
hound, but a good companion to us.

After making that big mistake, we started going to dog shows
and have bought some beautiful basset hounds from reputable
breeders who show their dogs. We purchased three dogs from
Sue and Andy Shoemaker of Shoefly Bassets. Our first AKC
Champion was CH. Shoefly's Bud Light, "Buddy." We also
finished "Moose," CH. Shoefly's Royal Moosehead, that we
purchased from them. Andy and Sue have become our mentors
and very special friends. "Mandy," CH. Vogue's Woebgon
Mountain Dew, was purchased from Heather Simonek of Vogue
Bassets. Until Heather's untimely death we had an excellent
working relationship with Heather and combined our breeding
efforts with hers. By working together we greatly improved the
quality of our basset hounds.

Moose was bred to Vogue's Black Cherry Jelly, owned by
Heather Simonek, and produced "Bonnie," CH. Vogue's
Woebgon Bonnie Miss. Mandy was bred to Moose as well.
Their offspring, Joy and Moxie, both became AKC Champions,
CH. Woebgon's Kickapoo Joy Juice and CH. Woebgon's Moxie
Original respectively. All our girls out of Moose have produced a
litter for us. We are now enjoying Moose's great grandchildren.
One of them, Ch. Woebgon's Miller High Life, "Miller," is now
back in the show ring and doing very well for a two year old.

Heather will be dearly missed, but our breeding program and
showing will continue. Both of us can be seen in the show rings,
mostly in Southern California, on a regular basis showing our
basset hounds.  We have already started working with others to
improve our breeding. As stated below Joy is pregnant. The
generous help and support from many breeders, both in the
United States and elsewhere, is greatly appreciated. The
reputable basset hound breeders both here and abroad are an
amazing group of people.
