We at Woebgon Bassets got off to a really great start in the AKC conformation show ring in 2014. Again the first show weekend in Indio was a good one for us. Our success has continued. Due to our current litter being so young our showing this summer will be very limited. We may not start back showing until fall.

Wow! The first show weekend of the year was good for Woebgon Bassets again this year. Both Heidi and Caicos did very well.

At the Inland Empire Hound Club Show Heidi was Select Bitch for another major toward her Grand Championship under judge Dr. Kenneth Levison. This was her seventh major and the seventh show where she defeated other Champions. We didn’t have a picture taken.

Pam took on Heidi as a project from our last litter. She had never shown a basset for a Championship. The pair accomplished that in September and went on to work on the Grand Championship. Heidi's first show was at the Palm Springs/Indio Shows in 2013 and she finished her Grand Championship a year later. Heidi finished the Grand Championship with 7 majors and 7 shows where she defeated other Champions. We at Woebgon Bassets are very proud of both of them.

At the same show Tradewind’s Caicos won his first major for 3 points by being selected Winner’s Dog and Best of Winners. At the time he had 7 of the 15 points he needed for his Championship.

Tradewind’s Caicos was Winners Dog for 2 points at the San Fernando Kennel Club Show on January 18 in Ventura, California under Judge Michael A. Brophy. He now has 9 of the 15 points he needs for his Championship including one of the two required majors.

We at Woebgon Bassets are very honored to win under judges who make it clear that they are looking for basset hounds that are “fit for purpose” that they could envision out in the field hinting for rabbits. Over the years we seem to have done very well under judges like Dr. Hensley.

The conformation judge on March 22, 2014 was basset hound breeder from Poland, Ms Margo Wieremiejczyk-Wierzchowska, president of the Basset Hound Club in Poland and the Cracow Kennel Club. She has been a member of Polish Kennel Club for over 30 years, as an owner and breeder of many Basset Hound champions. Her mother gave her first basset hound to Margo in 1979. She has judged in many countries, including Poland, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Austria, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Russia (including Eurasia 2011), Estonia, Latvia, Belarus, Hungary, Ukraine, World Dog Show Bratislava Slovakia 2009, Lithuania, Australia, Israel, Croatia, France, Sweden, Finland, Ireland, Portugal, Spain, and Romania. We did not take a picture of Joy with the judge.

Breeder/judge Henrietta Surjan, Secretary of the MEOE Basset Hound Club from Hungary. Ms. Surjan has owned basset hounds since 1994 when she fell in love with the breed after seeing some basset hounds at a show. She started breeding in 1998 and was greatly influenced by dogs she saw on a trip to the Czech Republic. Ms. Surjan has owned and bred many Champions.

on Sunday for a 3 Point Major at The Western Hound Association of Southern California’s Hound Classic
This is the second time we have finished a basset hound at the Hound Classic. We’re very excited about this win in addition to the Best in Sweepstakes wins and Group placements we received this weekend.
Special thanks to Steve and Jeffie Casey for breeding such a nice basset and allowing us to have him.
Caicos will be shown on a very limited basis in Best of Breed competition because we’re expecting puppies.

We received a call from Valerie Argyle, the owner of Ch. Woebgon’s Pink Floyd, about 2:00 p.m. on May 17th. She was excited to tell us that Floyd had just placed fourth in the Hound Group at a show in Utah. The picture is posted below. We’re very excited for both Floyd and Valerie.
