GCh. Ch. Woebgon’s Doc Howliday

“Doc”

When Our good friends Walt and Vickie Ross lost their basset, Indiana Bones, we were asked if it was possible for them to have a male “brother” for their basset, Sunny. Joy’s litter was due soon and we told them that they could have the pick of the males. After the litter arrived Walt and Vickie were at our house every other weekend to visit the litter. While they may have had their favorite the two of them waited until the puppies were about seven weeks old before they chose Doc. What was very ironic was that Walt had planned to name his next basset hound boy, Doc Howliday.

We have to add here that from the very beginning, Doc was our favorite of the boys in Joy’s second litter. There just seemed to be something special about him. We had decided that if Doc didn’t go home with Walt and Vickie he’d stay with us.

Well at the age of 9 months, 6 days Doc became Ch. Woebgon’s Doc Howliday at the 2011 Basset Hound Club of Southern California Specialty show on Sunday, March 27 after winning Winners Dog and Best of Winners for a 5 point major under breeder/judge John Bink from Australia. On the previous day Doc won Winners Dog for 5 points and an Award of Merit from breeder Patsy Tranter from England. To make these two days even more special was the fact that Doc’s sister, Miss Sassy, was Winners Bitch both days. She was also Best of Winners on Saturday for 5 points and got a 3 point major on Sunday. Sassy was also Best in Sweepstakes on Sunday.

At the Sunday BHCSC Specialty show on March 25, 1012 breeder/judge Diane Foote awarded Doc Best of Breed/Best in Specialty Show. This is the second time that one of our basset hounds has won a Basset Hound Specialty Show. We were all thrilled with this win.

On January 20, 2013 Doc earned the last points for his AKC Grand Championship by going Best of Breed under  breeder/judge Ron Likins.

Walt and Vickie have decided to neuter Doc in July of 2014. He will no longer be shown until he's old enough for the Veteras's Class.

Another Best of Breed at the Lake Mathews Kennel Club Show with Don Showing Doc.

Judge: Mrs. Susan St. John Brown

Doc, was Best of opposite Sex to Best of Breed to his litter mate Miss Sassy at the Antelope Valley KC Show on May 25, 2013 under Judge Mr. Gary L. Doerge. This is a first for us. We’ve never had brother and sister take both top awards.

Miss Sassy and Doc

Over the years at least one of the shows of the Kennel Club of Riverside has been good for Woebgon Bassets. This year was no different. While Saturday was a bust Sunday proved to be a different story. It was a great day at the dog show. All three of our entries came home with a win. Judge Mrs. Debra Thompson was very complementary of all three of our bassets.

At the May 21st 2017 GSDBHC Specialty Show Doc was Select Dog from the Veteran Dog Class. It is an honor for a dog to win the Veteran Class. To go on to win Select is an even greater honor. The judge, Ms Sheila Paskey, was astounded at the condition of our veterans and loved Doc.
