GCh. Ch. Tradewind’s Coral Reefer

He is the litter mate to our Caicos!

When we were searching for possible sires for Miss Sassy we literally searched the world for some possibilities. By using the Internet we were able to see several boys from many parts of the United States and some in other countries that we seriously considered. I can’t say publicly which dogs we considered. Some of them are still being considered for future litters. Our friend, Jeffie Casey, in Florida had a litter of eight with seven boys. She had their pictures on her Facebook account and a mutual friend had seen the litter in person. We knew both the sire and dam as well as their pedigrees. The mother, Lucy, lived with Jeffie when she lived here. While the father of the litter, Cubby, now lives in Europe he lived here in Southern California when he was earning his AKC Championship. We originally approached Jeffie with the possibility of using Reefer to breed to Miss Sassy. In the weeks that followed it became clear that his brother, Caicos, was coming to live with us. We still received updated pictures and video of Reefer even after Caicos came out to California. Jeffie continued to send me photos and video of him.

According to our reproduction specialists Caicos has a temporary issue that would greatly limit his ability to produce a litter of puppies at the time we needed to breed to him. Since we had already considered using Reefer we asked permission to do so and it was granted.

We’re very pleased that we have this unique opportunity to use Reefer and possibly Caicos in the future. Reefer was bred to Miss Sassy on February 27 & 28, 2014. We had five puppies from this breeding.

Illustrated Pedigree for Reefer

For those who have met Caicos, Reefer is about the same size and just as sweet. Reefer has met all the requirements for his AKC Championship and Grand Championship.

As can be seen from these photos Reefer looks a lot like his brother. The two of them were great pals before Caicos left to come to California. The photo below shows the two boys together just before Caicos left.
