2014 Basset Hound Club of Southern California Specialty Show

Woebgon Bassets Still Had Another Great Year

For the fourth year in a row the BHCSC Specialty Shows in 2014 were a highlight for Woebgon Bassets. Thank you again to all our friends, breeders and other exhibitors for all your support.

The weekend started out with a Basset Hound Club of America Regional show on Friday. While we didn’t have any major success Caicos was Reserve Winners Dog. He and Heidi were the only two bassets we entered in the show.

On Saturday we had the first BHCSC Specialty Show. GCh. Ch. Woebgon’s Kickapoo Joy Juice, ROM started us off by winning the Best of Opposite Sex in Veteran Sweepstakes under breeder/judge Stephen Archer from the United Kingdom. Later in the morning the club had it’s annual Title Parade for basset hounds who earned new Championships since the previous Specialty. Heidi received one for her AKC Grand Championship Championship. Actually she could have received one for her Championship as well. Later Joy won the veteran Bitch Class under breeder/judge Ms. Margo Wieremiejczyk-Wierzchowska from Poland. She thought that Joy was fantastic and in excellent condition for her age. We only showed Joy on Saturday.

Our biggest wins of the weekend came on Sunday. Caicos was awarded Best in Sweepstakes by breeder/judge Chuck Evans from Chicago. He loved Caicos. In the regular conformation show judging Caicos won Winners Dog for a three point major toward his AKC Championship. His win came under Mrs. Henrietta Surjan, Secretary of the MEOE Basset Hound Club from Hungary.

While we may not have had as many wins as in the past and our bassets weren’t in the running for Best of Breed winning these awards with Joy and Caicos are fantastic. Joy still has the desire for showing that she had when she was much younger and judges still recognize her excellent qualities. Achieving Winners Dog at a Specialty, especially our “home club’s” show, is always an honor. What made the day even more special is that the breeder of Caicos, Jeffie Casey, was there to see him win. We’re very excited that we were able to have these wins and thank the judges for rewarding our bassets with these honors.
