2017 Basset Hound Club of Southern California Specialty Show

Woebgon Bassets Had Another Great Year

The BHCSC Specialty Shows in 2017 were a highlight for Woebgon Bassets. Thank you to all our friends, breeders and other exhibitors for all your support. This year our veterans showed that they still have it.

On Saturday at the first BHCSC Specialty Show GCh. Ch. Woebgon’s Dodge City Sarsaparilla started us off by winning the Best of Opposite Sex in Veteran Sweepstakes under breeder/judge Ms. Jeanne Dietrich from Illinois. Later Sassy won the veteran Bitch Class under breeder/judge Ms.Bianca Teixeria from Brazil. She thought that Sassy was fantastic.

Our biggest wins of the weekend came on Sunday. Sassy's daughter, Ch. Pixie Styx of Desiree Acres (Pixie) was Select Bitch for a five point major toward her Grand Championship. Pixie is owned by Ron and Mary Lukins and co-owned by us. We were also thrilled that breeder/judge Sandra Johnston of Scotland awarded littermates GCh. Ch. Woebgon's Doc Howliday (Doc) and GCh. Ch. Dodge City Sarsaparilla (Sassy) first place in the Veterans Class. At specialty shows this is considered a big honor because owners love to bring out the bassets that haven't been in the show ring for several years. This win was especially exciting for us because the same judge awarded both Doc and Sassy Awards of Merit when she judged the BHCSC Specialty Show in 2012. She still recignized their qualities at the age of six.

While we may not have had as many wins as in the past and our bassets weren’t in the running for Best of Breed winning these awards are excellent. Having the same judge recognize the excellent qualities of Doc and Sassy very unusual. Achieving Select at a Specialty, especially our “home club’s” show, is always an honor.
